Post your projects below!  Remember you need a FULL explanation of how the song links to the act.  Would be a good idea to write this in a word document first, since weebly does not check for spelling!

WOOHOO first comment, haha.
Act 1-
Trouble- Taylor Swift
I think this would be a perfect fit for this act because when Juliet meets Romeo she kinda gets a feeling that Romeo is trouble and after the party when she asks her nurse who he is, which is the son of (not only a Montague but..) The Montague her father's mortal nemesis, she knows he is trouble.
Getting to Know You- Julie Andrews
I think this also is a good song for this act because were getting to know everyone, their problems, their personality, weather they are on the side of the Capulet's (Juliet's side of the family) or Montague's (Romeo side of the family).
Act 2-
Unchained Melody- Righteous Brother
This song clearly signifies this act because the main action is where Romeo and Juliet gets married, and this the most popular wedding song EVER! Also I'd like to refer to one of his lyrics "I've hungered for your touch" which (again) clearly signifies what they were feeling if they wanted to get married that soon (Not even a day after they have met each other).
Act 3-
Sail- Awolnation
This reminded me of this act because the singer says "Maybe I should kill myself" and (maybe I have selective hearing but) all I heard was kill. He repeats this song about 2 or 3 times which is about as many people were killed (i.e. Mercutio and Tybalt)
Hot In Herre- Nelly
This song represents this Act because Romeo and Juliet do some .....I guess you could say they were scandalous things for young teenagers. They also spent the night together and I guess they thought it was getting hot in there, cause they definitely didn't mind taking their clothes off.
Act 4-
Hello- Lionel Richie
This represent act 4 because Romeo and Juliet are both looking for each other and looking for a way to be together forever. They can't live without each other and that is what this story is saying.
Act 5-
Love is a Battlefield- Pat Benatar
This reminds me act 5 because throughout this whole story we find out love is in fact a battle field and in battlefields people die. A reference to her song " We are young..." They were young... " Heartache to heartache...." they both had heartaches, for each others.
I believe I rest my case on this matter.

Sorry I made a mistake in Sail- Awolnation he does not repeat this "song" but he repeats the phrase, "Maybe I should kill myself"

For Act 1, the song Hey Juliet by LMNT is a perfect song because after all it's called Hey Juliet. Plus, it is talking about how a guy (Romeo) is watching a girl (Juliet) from afar (at the Capulet party) and then end up talking.

As for Act 2, Marry me by Train is great because they are forbidden from each other and get married. A line that is perfect is "Forget the world now we won't let them see". I found this song exceptionally perfect for it.

You'll be in my heart by Phil Collins matches up for Act 3 because Romeo is banished in this act, so Juliet is separated from him and they must be going crazy since they are newly weds and now cannot be together. Their families also have no idea either, only Friar Lawrence.

Act 4 is Here Without You by 3 doors down and little does Romeo know Juliet is taking the poison. And it's only them two in their new little world. Juliet is only drinking the poison, because she's alone and wants to be met by Romeo at the tomb.

I won't Give up by Jason Mraz for Act 5 since they both won't give up, so Juliet kills herself to be with Romeo in heaven. That truly shows true love, even if they only new each other for less than a week.

Morgan your songs go with the acts perfectly. I picked Marry Me by Train as well, and I thought that the line you picked went perfect with the act! I noticed I even wrote about that as well. I looked up some of your songs and I thought they you matched them really well. Your descriptions definelty showed me why you picked those songs to . My favorite song you picked was I wont give up by Jason Mraz. I love that song already but it went with Act 5 100%! it really does show true love. I thought you did a great job.

Good job Morgan. I think that you chose some great songs in act 2, 3, 4, and 5. However not for 1. I think that just because the song has "Hey Juliet" in the lyrics means it relates to act 1. Maybe discussing some of the actions taking place in act 1 would help. Also, I liked the way you described the theme of the song in act 5. You really put some effort into it. And on a side note, I disagree that "they won't give up", I mean isn't killing yourself giving up?

Great job Morgan! I really think you correctly matched up the songs with the acts. I enjoyed all of the choices you selected and some of them are even favorite songs of mine! All of your descriptions really helped me understand why you chose the songs you did. My favorite would definitely have to be the Jason Mraz song because it is a favorite of mine. Overall i think you did a great job and definitely spent time matching up the songs and acts correctly!

Act 1 - Scene with Benvolio and Romeo under the Sycamore Grove
"I'm Loose" by C.L.A.M ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf8VmPAeCbs )
This song is very melodic and light. It also has a sort of feeling that's very sad and dramatic feeling to it, and it reminds me of Romeo crying over Rosaline because she is chaste. The dynamics of this song remind me of how Benvolio convinced and the end of the song when the dynamics reach there peak I can just imagine Romeo walking into the party and then meeting Juliet.
Act 2- Balcony Scene
"Pancakes" by Tan Sister Radio ( http://tansisterradio.bandcamp.com/track/pancakes )
This song starts off very melodic and soft, and as the dynamics kick in it's like when Juliet first notices Romeo. The parts where it gets louder reminds of when they're wrapped up in each other arms. This song is very upbeat and works for the beginning when everything is beginning to go right. Also the lyric in the chorus, "My heart is paper, but heavy as led" reminds of Romeo intense for love for anyone he sees as his true love.
Act 2- Marriage Scene
"Postcards from Italy" by Beirut ft. Jeremy Barnes ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYiCGLgRuAs )
This song is probably one of the cutest songs ever. This song just makes me smile, this song perfectly captures the scene. I can imagine the marriage scene happening everytime I listen to this song.
Act 3- Tybalt vs Romeo (after he kills Mercutio)
"In Circles" by Sunny Day Real Estate ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJzAoxvWizw )
This song I think is perfect because the pure emotion expressed in the intro and chorus is amazing. the words aren't too relatable to the story but the way they are executed is almost perfect.
Act 3- Romeo in the Friars Cell
"But the Regrets Are Killing Me" by American Football ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs3JDyTGojo )
This song expresses emotion and also the words completely relate to the current events in the story. Romeo is feeling regret about killing Tybalt and that goes tremendously well with the song. Mostly this songs (and all other songs by this band) just remind me of some heartbroken kid sitting and crying.
Act 3- When Capulet is yelling at Juliet
"Here" by Pavement ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxe5EqISVf8 )
The way I view this song is what's going through Juliet's mind. The chorus lyric that says, "Everything is ending here" totals represents the state of the story. Juliet's life is falling apart around her so in a sense "Everything is ending here"
Act 4- Juliet drinking the poison
"Gold Day" by Sparklehorse ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLNgDqAOBBo )
This song gives me a sense of what Juliet must be feeling as she's drinking the false poison. And the first line, "Good morning my child" just makes me think of the Nurse trying to wake her to find her "dead". And the low-built up energy of the song reminds me of a dream as if Juliet was in a dream.
Act 5- Romeo after hearing the "death" of Juliet
"Dragonfly" by M. Craft ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUT79VW7HL4 )
This song fits the scene perfectly due to the environment it creates. It creates a gloomy atmosphere, like getting back from the hospital. It reminds of Romeo deep in sorrow, going to get poison to kill himself that he's so deep in a rut.
Act 5- When Romeo finds Juliet "dead"
"You and Me" by Archers of Loaf ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6gL7y4xJY4 )
This song is perfect. As a song and for this scene. The lyrics, "Nothing seems to work out for you and me" is a total representation of their situation. And when the song gets huge and loud it's like when Juliet awakes to find Romeo dead and then killing herself. I can see it all happening in my head. And when it dies back down to just bass and vocals it reminds me of Romeo and Juliet lying together dead. If this was the end of the story this would be the perfect finale song.

Thanks!

*"Postcards from Italy" by Beirut ft.
The title "Postcards From Italy" reminds me of getting a postcard from a long distance friend and feeling overjoyed about it. And the occasion of marriage in Verona (Italy) is what I imagine the postcard to be about

Act 1- For the beginning of the first act, I would definitely choose the song “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles. It starts off the play with a happy tone, as it does, but also if you pay attention to the lyrics, it really means something. As in Romeo’s famous balcony monologue, he says “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun”. It really hits the ground running here. “Here comes the sun…” as in Juliet, so “here comes Juliet. “It feels like years since it’s been here…” years since a girl as beautiful as Juliet came along. It really plays along to the play and song.
Act 1 (end)- Can I choose two songs for this act? Well, I’m going to. For the end of Act 1, I would choose the song “And I Love Her” by (yes, again) The Beatles. The 5th scene is act 1 is where Romeo and Juliet first fall in love and kiss. What more can I say about the song? The title says it all. It’s about loving a girl, and that is the main part of the end of this act.
Act 2- For this act, where Romeo confesses his love to Juliet in Capulet’s orchard, then they get married, I would choose the song “If It Wasn’t For You” by Various Cruelties. It really fits the “in love” mood. The main chorus goes, “If it wasn't for you, don't know what I'd do. I'd have nothing to prove, I've got nothing to lose I'd be all lost at sea, with no reason to make it through. If it wasn't for you.” I feel that it relates directly to what’s going on. Romeo would be lost without Juliet. He would have nothing to prove. All if he didn’t meet Juliet.
Act 3- I have always liked this song. It is just a song that can relate to anything at any given time. Anyway, the song is “The Times They Are A-Changin” by Bob Dylan. It really fits the mood and perspective of what is going on with Romeo, being banished from Verona, Mercutio being killed, Tybalt’s blood on Romeo’s hands, and not being able to see his new wife. The times really do change. One day everything is going amazing, the next day your best friend is killed, you kill a man, and are banned from your town and cannot see your wife. Wow. What a change.
Act 4- For the beginning of Act 4, I would choose the song “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West. The title speaks for itself, as Juliet is locked from love of anyone else and is being forced to, marry Paris. She is not happy and is having a “Love Lockdown”. She is keeping her love for Romeo locked down.
Act 4 (end)- I am going to do a second one for this also. As you all know, this is the part where Juliet takes the sleeping potion and “dies”. For this I chose the song “Always a Catch” by Hans Zimmer. It is from the movie “The Dark Knight”, has no actual lyrics, but the title and song fit into the part where she drinks the potion and “dies”. It has a large build-up, and then a turn into darkness.
Act 5- For the beginning, I would choose the song “Lies” by the Black Keys. What Romeo hears about Juliet’s “death” are lies. He is to understand that she is alive, but the letter that says so failed to reach Romeo.
Act 5 (end)- For the end of Act 5, or the play actually, I chose the song “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. He says “That's why darling it's incredible, that someone so unforgettable, thinks that I am unforgettable too”. The two are unforgettable to everyone, and to each other.

Jarret, your music choices fit very well with every act. I listened to a few of the songs you chose while reading a few lines from the act and it was as if these songs were made for the play. I think you actually spent sometime thinking about your song choices. Overall great selection and it sounds good.

I completely agree with Sydney. As I was reading your analysis of the beginning of act one and the song here comes the sun I realized that I had never really noticed those things before but they were very true. you must be an extremely perceptive person to have caught that and mace the connection because it seems that few people would have noticed that.

Act 1- Pocket Full of Stars by Nine Black Alps: This song is fitting for act 1 because all throughout this act Romeo is pinning over someone, whether its Rosaline or Juliet. A line that repeats itself in the chorus of this song is," I need a rainy day, a star crossed lover..." which is exactly what Romeo and Juliet are said to be. The song also starts with the line, " I don't know who you are and I don't know where you've been..." This definitely describes how Romeo and Juliet meet during the party.

Act 2- Everything has Changed by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran: This is a good song for this act because the song is about two people who meet, do not know anything about the other person, but still cannot stop thinking about each other for days. In the play Romeo and Juliet cannot quit pinning over each other until they are married less than twenty-four hours after meeting.

Act 3- Man Down by Rihanna: This is a good song for this act because the song is about someone wronging the singer and the the person getting back at the man who wronged them by killing them. In the play Tybalt wants to duel Romeo and when Romeo refuses Tybalt and Mercutio fight. When Mercutio dies Romeo feels guilty and in his rage ( and for revenge) he kills Tybalt. Also in the song the girl is leaving her current location to escape from what she has done and the consequences. That is similar to Romeo being banished from Verona for killing Tybalt.

Act 4- I will Wait by Mumford and Sons: I think that this is a good song for the scenario in act four because even though Romeo is banished and she may not see him for years she plans on waiting for him and refuses to marry Paris because she loves Romeo so much. Romeo also plans to wait for the right time to return to Juliet.

Act 5- Stay by Rihanna: This is a great song for act five in my opinion. This song could be played when Juliet wakes only to find Romeo lying dead next to her. A really relatable line in the song is," Funny you're the broken one when I'm the only one who needed saving". This could relate to how Juliet planned on waking up to find Romeo waiting to save her, but instead she found the "broken" form of a dead Romeo. The song also states," ...makes me feel like I can't live without you..." which directly relates to Juliettrying to find some leftover poison to kill herself, failing, then stabbing herself to death with a dagger.

Hannah, the songs you picked were perfect for the play! I thought they went with each act perfectly. Everything has changed by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran went with Act 2 very well because Romeo and Juliet met and they both didnt know who one another was but Romeo still felt like he was absolutley in love with her. Stay by Rihanna was also an excellent choice. The way you explained each song was very well thought out. I could tell that you put a lot of effort and actually tried doing this project. I think you did a really good job!

i LOVE the song you chose for act 1 i think it totally related to Romeo how all he wanted was someone to love or to be loved and he just needed something good to come his way.
for act 2, i can completely agree again i love how you're tying modern music in because that song is really relatable because Taylor Swift is dealing with the same emotions Romeo and Juliet are with just meeting someone and thinking about them 24/7.
for act 3, the song is great because its really emotional which is the base of what drove romeo to kill tybalt.
for act 4, the song you chose has a long of feelings and desire for the person the song is about, just like with romeo and juliet, nothing, literally nothing including death, could keep them away from eachother.
for act 5, the singer was on the verge of tears for that song, just like romeo killing himself he was still with her but all he really wanted was her to have never left her in the first place.

Act 1: Love Story by Taylor Swift. This song is literally about Romeo and Juliet. In the first part of this song, it explains how Romeo and Juliet first met and it was love at first sight. It starts off saying "We were both young when I first saw you," and Romeo and Juliet were both very young when they first met. Later it says "See the lights see the party the ball gowns," and in the play Romeo and Juliet first meet a party. This definitely describes the first act.

Act 2: Marry Me by Train. In this song, it is talking about getting married like Romeo and Juliet do in the second act. It starts off saying "Forever can never be long enough for me to feel like I've had long enough with you," and it really reminds me of how compassionate Juliet and Romeo are at first sight. Later it says "Forget the world now we won't let them see," and this is exactly like how Romeo and Juliet cannot be seen together.

Act 3: My Life by Lil Wayne. In the opening of this song, it says "Don't Shoot! Don't Shoot!" and this could refer to when Mercutio and Tybalt fight and Mercutio gets shot. Later it says "Dear Lord, you have took so many of my people but I'm just wondering why you haven't taken my own life," and this reminds me of Romeo when he feels guilty for Mercutio's death.

Act 4: Broken by Lifehouse. This song is about someone who is super lost because they are sad or upset about something. The line in this song, "And I am here still waiting though I still have my doubts, I am damaged at best, like you've already figured out," reminds me of Romeo when he finds out Juliet had "died."

Act 5: I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie. In the beginning of this song, it says "Love of mine, some day you will die
but I'll be close behind, I'll follow you into the dark," and this reminds me of Romeo when he sees that Juliet is "dead" and he takes the poison to follow her into "the dark".

I definitely agree with the songs you chose to add to Romeo and Juliet. I read your description of them and even looked up the songs! They all fit perfectly! I like how you put in quotes that you thought matched up with the tragedy, which you were spot on about. When I first saw a Lil Wayne song, I was confused. But, once I looked it up, it made sense to me why it worked. I also almost picked Broken by Lifehouse for Act 4.

I too chose "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" for act five because i think it totally fits what is exactly happening. I really liked how you chose modern songs but strongly related them back to such an old play. You gave thorough descriptions why you picked each of these songs and that really helped me understand what you saw in the songs that made them remind you of the different acts from Romeo and Juliet. Marie, I think the songs you chose were quite close to the lyrical interpretation to Romeo and Juliet! I like how use Broken by Lighthouse, and Marry Me by Train. The do indeed fit very well into the real meaning and acts of Romeo and Juliet. However, as light criticism I would have personally chosen a different song than Love Story, by Taylor Swift. I have heard the song multiple times and I understand what you are trying to convey with the song, however, the song actually changes at the end, have both Romeo and Juliet live, instead of them dying. That, is where I find it a little odd to put at the beginning of the first act. However, all together I think you did a marvelous job on this project!

Your analyzation of the song you chose for Act 3 was great. I can see now what you were thinking by picking that song. It was a good coice. I listened to the song Broken, that you chose for Act 4, and it made sense the way you connected them. Act 5 was a fair song choice by how you related the lyrics to the play. Over all, your choices were terrific. Good work!

Act 1: For act 1 I would choose the song Super Human by Chris Brown Ft. Keri Hilson because in the beginning of the act he was really sad over Rosaline and then he met Juliet and everything changed. The quote that shows this is "Weak I had been crying and crying for weeks how'd I survive when I could barely speak? barely eat, on my knees but that's the moment you came to me I don't know what your love has done to me." it shows that he totally changed when she walked in.

Act 2: The song I think goes perfect with this act is Marry Me by Train. In this act Romeo and Juliet decide to get married and this song goes perfect with it. Forever can never be long enough for me to feel like I've had long enough with you, forget the world now, we won't let them see..." this quote went well with the act because it says we won't let them see and that's exactly what they do they don't tell anyone.

Act 3: I would have to chose Follow me down by 3OH!3 because it says "Follow me down, out of this town.." In Romeo when he leaves he probably wants her to come with him and they were going to try and figure something out.

Act 4: When your gone by Avril Lavigne fits this act perfectly because when Romeo finds Juliet he is sad and lost and his heart is broken. The song says "when your gone, pieces of my heart are missing you"... this song fits in with this act.

Act 5: Forever by Medina in the song it says "Me and you forever im always gonna be right here, me and you forever.." this is just some of the lyrics but it goes with the song because they both kill themselves so they can be together with each other for ever.

These are the songs that I thought would go with the five acts of Romeo and Juliet their are many more but these are the ones I could think of.

I completely agree with the songs you chose Minnie. I would have never thought of putting the song "Super Human". It makes perfect sense the way you explained it. I also chose the song "Marry Me" because it goes absolutely perfectly well. After hearing the rest of your songs I understood exactly what your were trying to explain. I could definately tell you put time and effort into actually analyzing the lyrics of the song and making them connect to the play. Nice job!

I completely agree with you on your song choices, especially on acts 4 and 5. When you're gone captures the theme of act 4, because Juliet is so upset over Romeo being banished that she is seriously questioning her life with out him. She is now forced to be alone just like Avril Lavigne in the song. Forever fits simply because them killing themselves is like a vow to be together forever.

thats so true about act 1 and how quickly juliet affected romeo even though his heart was broken the same day.
i also agree eith act 2 because with romeo and juliet it was really rushed and they werent really thinking about anything also, all they were thinking about was marriage because they thought that marriage defined them , for act 3, i like your choice, but i also think that the song is great for describing the emotional part of their relationship that describes that they are both going downward but they still want them to follow them to be together. i love the choices for act 4 and 5 because just like romeo and juliet, its sad when they are apart and when they are together, nothign else matters.

Act 1- For this Act i would have to choose the song First Time by Lifehouse. The song title pretty much explains itself but it is all about the feelings you will experience when you see that special someone for the first time. There is one line in the song that really stood out to me. It states "I'm feeling alive all over again" and this automatically made me thing of the Romeo and Rosaline situation. He was so heartbroken just moments before he entered the party and then all of a sudden he was feeling happy again, all because of Juliet.

Act 2- For this act i would say A Thousand Years by Christina Perri is a song that very well suits it. It is a cliche little love song but it is actually very sweet and helps describe how both Romeo and Juliet are feeling in these moments. Act 2 has some of the most romantic parts of the play in it so it is very important to have a song that exemplifies love and how it makes people feel.

Act 3- For this act i think the song I'll Be Missing You by Puff Daddy best describes what is going on. Two deaths occur in this act, one of them being Mercution, Romeos good friend. This song simply states the sadness to come along with death and how missing someone is also a large part that goes along with it.

Act 4- For this act i think the song Family Portrait by Pink shows the arguments occurring within the family especially between Juliet and her parents regarding them wanting her to marry Paris. Though this song goes more into the parents fighting and causing that to make the family fall apart it still shows us other examples how the tension alone between a family can be the cause of the unhappiness.

Act 5- For this act I think I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie. The song exactly says "Love of mine some day you will die.But I'll be close behind, I'll follow you into the dark." Those lyrics perfectly describe what is happening when Romeo kills himself then Juliet takes her life as well once she realizes what has happened.

Good job Emma I really like your song choices. However, some of your songs have bad words and that is borderline. But otherwise, I liked your choice for Act 5. Juliet kind of does "follow Romeo into the dark". Also it makes sense because they both kill themselves when they are without the other. With act 3 I think that Puff Daddy really knows what he is talking about. Solid job Emma

Act 1: Welcome to Heartbreak by Kanye West
I chose this song because Kanye is singing about having his heartbroken. Also, Kanye mentions that “Can’t stop having these visions” about his lover and how he can’t get over her. Romeo is in a similar situation with Rosaline, and how heartbroken he is.

Act 2: Last Night by The Strokes
Last Night depicts act 2 very well. In act 2 Mercutio gives Romeo a hard time about being in love with Rosaline. The lyrics “Oh people they won’t understand, No girlfriends they won’t understand. This is similar to how Romeo is feeling with Mercutio not understanding his love.

Act 3: I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift
The lyrics in this song tie together with Act 3 very well. In the previous act, Romeo and Juliet are married by Friar Laurence. Also, in this act Romeo kills Tybalt. Juliet could be thinking “I knew you were trouble when you walked in”.

Act 4: One More Night by Maroon 5
Adam Levine sings “So I cross my heart and I hope to die, That I’ll only stay with you one more night”. Romeo only stays with Juliet one more night coincidently. Also, the fact that Romeo “hopes to die” in this act relates this song to the act even further.

Act 5: We’re Gonna Die Young by KE$HA
This song relates to act 5 because the song says “we’re gonna die young”, a foreshadowing of what happens in act 5. Also, They both die very young and so do other people.

Nice job Tom.
1-I also did a very similar song by Kanye West. He tends to do many songs like those. It does tie into it well
2-Your points are justified. I never would have thought to put a song like that in mine
3-It could go either ways, referring to the perspective of Tybalt or Romeo, nice
4-I was thinking of putting the same song in! This really ties in well and has that same feel to the play
5-I thought this one was silly. I don't really think this song justifies for Romeo and Juliet

CHERRY PIE by Warrant: When Romeo goes to Capulet’s party, he’s trying to get his mind off Rosaline, which is definitely accomplished. He sees Juliet and is instantly intrigued, commenting on how beautiful she is. Since this song is mainly about swingin with a girl who reminds him of cherry pie, it reminds me of the party where Romeo and Juliet meet - where people are dancing. It also reminds me of how Romeo is only physically attracted to Juliet, just like how the lyrics in the song go, “Looks so good, bring a tear to your eye.”

Cherry Pie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjyZKfdwlng

SISTER GOLDEN HAIR by America: I see this song from the perspective of Juliet and how before she meets Romeo, she says she isn’t ready to “go to the alter.” However, afterwards, she is almost too ready to get married to Romeo. Also, in the song, the lyrics are, “But it doesn’t mean you ain’t been on my mind,” which is similar to when Juliet is saying her thoughts about Romeo aloud and he overhears.

Sister Golden Hair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzUQZw3wfro

EASE MY PAIN by Declan Flynn: I chose this sonar song because Juliet is dealing with the death of her cousin, Tybalt, as well as the banishment of Romeo. She is having conflicting feelings over these series of events. Then, her father tells her that he expects her to marry Paris (without caring what she thinks), which makes things worse, since she’s already dealing with being wedded to Romeo. She’s under stress/grief/pain, and probably just wants to be relieved of those problems.

Ease My Pain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2bENHVXpck

DRUMMING SONG by Florence + the Machine: Drumming Song relates to Juliet going to Friar Lawrence to notify him that her father wants her to marry Paris. Florence sings, “I ran to the tower where the church bells chime,” which could be related to Juliet rushing to Friar Lawrence’s to “confess.” Also, Florence sings, “But as the water fills my mouth it couldn’t wash the echoes out,” which is similar to Juliet drinking the potion and waking up with her problems worse than before she fell asleep.

Drumming Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boo2Zm69fhY

DUST IN THE WIND by Kansas: “Only for a moment, then the moment’s gone.” This can signify Juliet falling asleep, then waking up to see her dead husband next to her, things gone horribly wrong. A couple verses later, the lyrics are, “All we do crumbles to the ground,” meaning all the love Romeo and Juliet had for each other is now diminished since their love died with them, similar to life. We all work so hard and strive for so much, but in the end, we are all stories that only lasted for a short while, just like dust in the wind.

Act 1- Love story (Taylor swift)
This song matches with Romeo and Juliet. Which it describes the first time that they met. In the song, my favorite part of the lyrics is, "we were both young, when i first saw you", and it's actually saying that they were teenagers, when the got in love. I love this song! <3

Act 2- Marry Me (Train)
This act it's the most romantic moment from the whole play. Because this is when Romeo and Juliet become a lovely couple. The quote that totally matches is, "Forever can never be long enough for me, feel like I've had long enough with you". This shows how much the love each other. But i also think that love it's not about rushing, because they both got in love at first sight. Which i think it's a bit immature.

Act 3- Man Down (Rihanna)
This act it's when the conflict starts. Between Tybalt, Mercutio and Romeo. When Tybalt kill Mercutio, Romeo become crazy, and the perfect quote for this situation from this song is, "...and i took his heart when, i pulled down that gun ram pum pum pum..." and this is when Tybalt dies. Which it was a big sad moment for Juliet but anyways, she can't live without him. After all this incident, Romeo got banished and it was a hard shock for his wife. :(

Act 4- Clarity (Zedd/Foxes)
"Cause you are the piece of me, i wish i didn't need. If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy, if our love's insanity why are you my clarity". This is the perfect quote. Romeo is banished, and Juliet it's forced to marry Paris. She wants to kill her self because she does not have her Romeo. I actually think it's really dramatic. They were teenagers, and too young to have marriages. And everything mix up with the potion stuff. It's kinda sad, because they want to suicide themselvs for love.

Act 5- I Will Follow you in The Dark (Death Cab)
When they kill themselves, they go in the dark because obviously they died. "Love of mine, someday you will die, but I'll be close behind". This says a bunch of ideas. If they had the intelligence to think about the consequences, any of this would happen. They should've not being married, because they are not even near the 20 years. But, the loved each other and that's the theme of the whole play! (:

Hello Savannah! One of my favorite songs it's DRUMMING SONG from your favorite singer and it is on one of your acts. And I saw the lyrics, and it's really alike with the act. But i think this song has the meaning of the whole act. Not only for an specific scene, im talking about the whole play. You chose great songs for the acts, and i agree with every single one of your opinions! (:

You're fourth song choice is brilliant! I've actually seen Florence live where she performed that song. I wish I would have thought with connecting that line to their interaction with Friar Lawrence. That song fits so perfectly with that act in every way. The part about the potion connecting with the line about water too is perfect. Really excellent choice. All of your choices fit the acts but this one particularly stood out.

Dust in the Wind was a very deep and emotional song which is exactly what is needed for the ending of the play.

Playlist with all of these songs: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL671PVLRYdsRBTVd4m_gy9cb2n3IJBvaG&feature=mh_lolz
ACT 1
If We Ever Meet Again by MadilynBailey (cover of original by Timbaland ft. Katy Perry)
When Romeo and Juliet first meet
I chose the cover over the original because I find that this musician’s acoustic interpretation is very lovely, sweet, and all together better fitted for the scene than the electronic-pop original. “I’ll never be the same, if we ever meet again” works very well because the fact that they met changes both of their lives, definitely Romeo’s more that Juliet’s, but then when they meet again, Romeo proposes to Juliet, which I would definitely consider something that changes who you are forever, especially if your fiancée is part of a family that is your sworn enemy.

ACT 2
1940 (Section Quartet Mix) by The Submarines
This song fits because even though it has a somber tone, so does Act 2 (even with Romeo and Juliet being married and happy. There are several moments of foreshadowing in this chapter, which matches several lyrics, including “Something’s wrong when you forget, things that haven’t happened yet” and “You couldn’t sleep for the awful fright that kept you up bed last night … they vanish with the sunrise” Particularly, the latter lyric matches the fact that Romeo had talked about this premonition of trouble that would come from the party, but these thoughts vanish with the sunrise, aka Juliet. Also, “Now’s the time to be alive, to stay awake with me a while, and smile” reminds me of the scene where Romeo and Juliet are talking after the party, because to them, there is no time like right now to love each other, and they are staying awake late at night to talk to each other and smile.

ACT 3
Shipping Up to Boston [Instrumental] by The Dropkick Murphys
The Fight Scene at the beginning of ACT 3
The strings, drums, and electric guitars really work together to create an action-packed atmosphere, and the fast pace makes me think of everyone fighting swiftly with precision, as described in the play

Rhythm of Love by Plain White T’s
Romeo and Juliet’s Last Night Together (while they are alive, at least)
It is not only the happy, upbeat, sound of this song that reminds me of this moment, but also the lyrics are strongly reminiscent of Romeo’s last visit to Juliet. In particular, “We may only have tonight, until the morning sun you’re mine, all mine” and “When the moon is low, we can dance in slow motion, and all you tears will subside, all your tears will dry” makes me think of when Romeo runs to Juliet’s room the night after he was exiled just to comfort and spend a few more precious hours with her until the morning sun rises and he has to leave.

ACT 4
The Impossible Astronaut – Murray Gold
This act is very simple, but in fact contains the climax of the play. In this act, Romeo is long gone, and Juliet’s stuck in Verona, being forced to marry Paris. She’s sad, but more desperate in this situation than last, since she is so opposed to breaking her vows to Romeo by marrying another man. This song reminds of the “poison” Friar Lawrence gives Juliet. This is because carries danger and sorrow, as drinking it could cause many different problems, which I feel is represented well by the dreary vocals and melancholic violins. But, it offers Juliet a way to escape having to marry Paris and allows her to see her Romeo again, which makes the potion a good thing as well, which I think the little bells, the little sweet sounds in a emotional song, symbolize well.

ACT 5
The Third Temptation of Paris – Alesana
A monumental reason why I chose this song is because it is about two other famous lovers who caused a major death toll through their relationship, Paris of Troy and Helen (formerly) of Sparta. While reading Romeo and Juliet, there were many moments that reminded me of the Iliad. The emotional vocals and piano, especially since it is a duet between a man and a woman, immediately makes me think of these poignant final moments of the play. “My foolish actions will cost so many good men” both Romeo and Juliet’s actions, which were quick and without thought of long-term effects they would have, caused several deaths, including their own suicides. “Desire leaves me numb to all the pain surrounding me” the thought of being together in love with their beloved motivate Romeo and Juliet to commit suicide upon finding the other dead, despite the pain killing themselves will bring not only physically to themselves, but mentally and emotionally to everyone else. “Sacred and profane is our love in death” relates to when Capulet and Montague end the huge feud between the two families because of the shed blood and the love their children had.

Hey Kate! Your song choices are awesome, and I can really see how they relate to the different acts, especially the last two songs. The Impossible Astronaut doesn't even have vocals, so it's more melancholic and fits the act. I also really liked The Third Temptation of Paris because it makes me think of if Romeo and Juliet were to sing a duet together, it might sound something like that.

Act 1: Michelle by The Beatles
The reason I chose this song is because I felt it almost describes act one. We have two lovers that cannot fathom what awaits them. This forbidden love makes this song the perfect choice.

Act 2: Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez
The title of the song practically sums up this act. Romeo and Juliet are to be married without their parents consent which adds an edgy feeling to the play. You will almost find the same edginess in this song.

Act 3: You're Going Down by Sick Puppies
I chose this song for act 3 because I believe it describes Romeo and Tybalt's hate for one another. Romeo feels as if he must avenge Mercutio and this song just builds up to such an urge of fight.

Act 4: I Don't Care by Apocalyptica
Just listening to this song and reading act 4 it all comes together. Although this song is rather depressing so was this act thus the best act and song duo. I chose this song out of Juliet's view. She only wants to be with Romeo, and if taking the poison is a 50/50 chance of living she is willing to take it.

Act 5: Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri
Another sad song to a sad ending. Our beloved Romeo and Juliet have killed themselves. There are tons of reasons that we believe caused this, but then again there is nothing we can do. The only upside to the ending was the two families made up.

Max, I love all your song choices! Especially the Selena Gomez and Jar of Hearts jam! You have really wonderful and inspiring taste in music. I can totally see how "Love you like a love song" works because they love each other so much that it's literally like every love song in the books. And "Jar of Hearts" is a perfect ending. It fits the sad feeling all the viewers are experiencing. Christina Perri puts so much feeling and emotion into that song and that would be the perfect song to play in a film as the main characters are dying.

Max, I really enjoyed all of your songs. Except for Selena Gomez. Not my jam. Your songs fit in very well with the play. Each act came together piece by piece with the songs and the lyrics and the beats. I like act 4 because she doesn't care at all. She wants to die or have romeo. Also, with the act 3 song, I like the title, you're going down, because Tybalt and Mercutio both go down. All in all, your song choices were very good. 10/10

Act I: Barely Legal by Azealia Banks https://soundcloud.com/azealia-banks/barely-legal-azealia-banks-vs
This song, beginning with the title, sums up the act. First of all, the family feud between the Montagues and the Capulets has caused a lot of trouble in Verona, people getting killed, people fighting in public places near towns-people. Then there's the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet and flirt a little bit. When they depart for the night, the realize what they've gotten themselves into with their forbidden love.

Act II- Idle Talk by Iamamiwhoami http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2KxlzQMTpU
This song represents how in scene two the lovers are totally in awe of each other. Their minds are impulsive and running around in a dreamy, dazed state. Their minds aren't acting like they usually are, they're in love; and Romeo and Juliet BOTH would probably give or do anything to be with each other, even if it means for them to be married without their parents' consent, in the midst of a gruesome feud. "Where are you, my long lost love?"

Act III: Kill by Iamamiwhoami http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTnH3zs8wRo
This long but relevant song shows how act III IS the climax of the play. There is building action, when Tybalt challenges Romeo, and Mercutio and Tybalt get into first a verbal argument, that turns sour. Instead of Romeo fighting Tybalt, Mercutio quarrels with him. This is when the song picks up and the main action of Mercutio being slain by Tybalt, Romeo being banished from Verona, and Juliet finding out what her husband has done, occurs.

Act IV: Retrograde, by James Blake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p6PcFFUm5I
This song explains how Romeo is banished and is away from Verona, and how Juliet is coping. Her parents have arranged for her suitor, Paris, to marry her originally on Thursday, but it is now moved to the next day. Juliet is panicking, and doesn't know what to do. She goes to the cell of Friar Lawrence and begs him to help her. He gives her a strange vial of a potion that will make it seem as if she is dead. Before she takes the serum in her bed, Juliet has many second-thoughts. In the quote, "now that I'm hit," it represents Juliet taking the poison and her family grieving over her, "Death,"

Act V: Give Me Love, by Ed Sheeran http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKzWfWZ4_7s
This song is when Romeo finds out that Juliet is, "dead," and also when the Friar's letter about his plan to fake Juliet's death does not reach him because Friar John is quarantined. Romeo can't handle his emotions and goes on a path straight for Verona, straight for Juliet. Romeo turns into almost a super human as he threatens to murder his own best friend/servant. As the singer screams, "Give Me Love," it represents Romeo wishing that Juliet could be with him and love him, but since she is dead, she can't. Romeo then takes a poison that he purchased from the apothecary, and as Romeo sadly dies, Juliet arises from her slumber as the Friar reaches the chamber. Juliet sees her husband's dead body as the Friar tries to calm her down. As the watch is coming in the distance, the Friar leaves Juliet. Juliet then take Romeo's blade, stabs herself, then perishes, which leaves Romeo and Juliet to be together in heaven.

Act V, ending: Know The Way, by Grimes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQLErUoyJ0k
This song is the whole wrap-up and depressing end of the story. The calming melody represents the resolution, which includes the funeral of the two lovers, and the two families, side by side, joining forces and ending the feud, Lord Montague promising to even erect a golden statue of Juliet in Verona. As the play ends, many wonder why something so tragic is so famous today; but there's a reason for everything, and this play has a strong effect on anyone who experiences it.

Act 1
- "Somebody To Love" by Queen. This song represents the way Romeo is feeling after he finds out Rosaline can not love him. He feels rejected and gutted. The lyrics "Can anybody find me somebody to love?" explains how his friends are trying to get Romeo to cheer up and find someone else to fall in love with. This links with the theme of: love always finding a way. Romeo didn't think he could love again, and that's what this song by Queen perfectly portrays.

Act 2
-"Underneath the Sycamore" by Death Cab For Cutie
This song relates to the balcony scene shared between Romeo and Juliet. The lines "We are the same we are both sane" links up with Juliet's line "What's in a name" because when Romeo and Juliet are together they forget about their names and who they are, and the families they belong to and only think aout each other. The song gets the point across that they are protected by their love and no outside force can penetrate or change the way they feel about each other.

Act 3
-In all of Shakespeare's 5 act plays is the climax. And what better song for a climax then the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. As Tybalt and Mercutio are dueling, swords clashing, and sweat dripping this song is playing in the background. It adds to the suspense. Even though there are no lyrics you get the general vibe of the scene. This song spells out intense with the complicated violin patterns and over all sharpness this song perfectly fits this act.

Act 4
- For this act I chose "Who Loves the Sun" by the Velvet Underground. I feel that this song describes how Juliet feels after she finds that Romeo has been banished from Verona, she is heart broken, confused, and upset. She doesn't know what to feel or how to react. This song is taking something so beautiful like the sun and saying that it is pointless and stupid all because Romeo has left her heart broken.
- I also chose "Come Back Home" by Two Door Cinema Club for this act because it is the first song that came to mind when Romeo was banished. If he wouldn't have been banished maybe Romeo and Juliet would have been happy together, everything could have worked out. The line "Now you're on your own, won't you come back home, to see you're not that kind. And find the strength to find another way." I think this is demonstrating how if things had been different in that moment that Romeo was banished the whole story would have changed and possibly ended differently.

Act 5
"Hero" by Regina Spektor is the perfect song for the final act. The first line "He never ever saw it coming at all. He never ever saw it coming at all." This gives you a picture of Romeos reaction when he saw Juliet lying in the tomb. The way Regina repeats herself over and over makes you feel exactly how much sadness and despair both Romeo and Regina re feeling.

Hi! I loved the songs that you chose so much! If I could have done the same exact ones as you did, I would have. I believe that they represent all of the acts very well, and you did a great job on explaining how they go with the story of Romeo and Juliet. I feel like you really have an understanding of how each character feels in all of their acts.
I especially agree with you on the song Hero, that the way she keeps repeating herself make it a powerful song with a powerful meaning.

to be honest, I'm a little biased just because i'm a huge Queen and death cab for cutie fan. I think somebody to love is an ideal choice for act 1, just because it describes Romeo's frustration and loneliness. All he wants is somebody to love. I agree with the others that you did quite a good job explaining your song choice. There are alot of parallels also between "underneath the sycamore" and act two. Good job!

Act 1:
"Super Human' by Chris brown. i chose this song because in the beginning of the act, he was sad that Roseline did not love him back, but when he saw Juliet he became happy and in love once again.

act 2:
"endless love" by Lionel Ritchie. i chose this song because when romeo and juliet first saw each other, they instantly fell in love. in the song, it talks about the endless love they have and will have for each other.

Act 3:
'lets stay together' by al green. i chose this song because Juliet finds out that she is being forced to marry Paris, so she goes to friar Laurence to get the potion. She does this because she does not want to leave romeo.

act 4:
"where ever you will go" by the calling. i chose this song because i think it says that no matter what, they (Romeo and Juliet) will always be together.

Act 5:
"with or without you" by U2. i chose this song because it talks about no mater if they are alive or not, they will always be together.

1
The Number One- Atmosphere
This song represents this act because it talks about a girl who this guy is obsessed over and how he thinks about her all the time. This is exactly like Act one when Romeo meets Juliet and he instantly becomes obsessed.

Act 2
Love You Madly- Cake
This song represents this act because it talks about how a man loves a woman no matter what she looks like or what her background is. This is like act two in that Romeo loves Juliet even though she is a Capulet and he is a Montague.

Act 3
Castle Walls-T.I.
This song represents this act because it talks about how a girl doesn’t know what is happening on the outside of her house. This is like when Juliet still does not know that Tybalt has died and that Romeo is banished.

Act 4
Check Yo Self –Ice Cube
This song really fits this act because it reminds me of how Juliet has the option to either drink the poison or marry Paris. In the scene where she is given this option she can either check her self or wreck her self. If she “checks” her self then she will marry Paris and live. If she “wrecks” her self then she will follow the Friar’s plan and die with Romeo.

Act 5
Worst Comes to Worst Dilated Peoples
This song fits this act because it talks about how if “worst comes to worst then the people come first”. In this act, after Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, the prince talks to the people of Verona about ending the feud between the two houses. The Capulet’s and Montague’s end the feud so they don’t lose any more “peoples”.

1-I guess I can agree with your choice. Romeo does meet Juliet and instantly falls in love. I just don't think the song has the same "vibes" as act 1 in my opinion. It's not a bad song though.
2-I really like the song you picked because it goes along quite well. I wish I saw this entry before because I would have picked the same one.
3-This song does go along well. Juliet has no idea what has happened until the nurse informs her
4-I don't really agree with this song choice. I think your basing this about Juliet and how she needs to be cautious about her actions. I just don't think it fits well with the act.
5-I think this was a decent song choice. The rap genre doesn't seem to fit but the message stil pertains about ending the feud
Overall nice job Blake!

ACT 1
Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen.
I chose this song because love can get a little crazy, as shown in this song and in Romeo and Juliet. At first Romeo is upset because Rosaline doesn’t love him. In the song it says, “She gives me hot and cold fever, then she leaves me in a cool, cool sweat.” This is how Romeo feels because his love for Rosaline makes him crazy and lovesick, but then he finds out that they can’t ever be together. Then it says “I gotta be cool, relax, get hip, get on my track's until I'm ready, crazy little thing called love.” For me this shows how Romeo goes to the party and tries to forget Rosaline, then meets Juliet.

ACT 2
Halo by Beyonce
This song really represents Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other. In it, it says, “Standing in the light of your halo, I got my angel now.” The two young lovers both feel this way, that they have their angel and they will always love each other.

ACT 3
He’s a Pirate composed by Klaus Badelt
This is a very climatic scene with a bit of fighting, yelling, and overwhelming feelings. This song doesn’t have any lyrics, but I thought it would be a great choice! As I listened to the sounds of the instruments, I could picture Romeo and Tybalt fighting, then at the very end of the song, Tybalt dying.

ACT 4
The Call by Regina Spektor
This one is perfect for this act. Romeo is banished and Juliet is desperate. After spending the night together, Rome gets ready to leave Juliet to Mantua. In the song it says, “I’ll come back when you call me. No need to say goodbye.” Juliet knew that no matter what, they wouldn’t be apart forever, and that if she needed her Romeo, he would come for her.

ACT 5
Darcy’s Letter performed by Jean-Yves Thibaudet
Another instrumental song! :) When I was listening to this song, I could once again picture everything that was going on in act 5. The beginning music is fast paced and it reminds me of when Friar Lawrence is trying to get to Juliet’s tomb as fast as he can and it’s like he and Romeo are racing. Then the song slows down and I can just picture Romeo and Juliet dying in each other’s arms.

Allie, I really like your song choices. You are so right about act three, I looked up the song and could see all the action from act three in my head perfectly. I also like your act two song choice, Halo. The line in that song that you chose fits extremely well, because in my opinion it is how Romeo and Juliet feel. You did a really good job!

I found it difficult to find songs with lyrics that captured the themes perfectly, so I decided to do classical music pieces which can help show the rise of conflict and resolution throughout the play.
Act 1: To a wild rose by Edward MacDowell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yheSY_nKfGY). This piano piece captures scene one really well. In scene one, you see an initial opening to the play. The song is soft and calm, but also shows the scene of Romeo meeting Juliet for the first time when the tempo begins to pick up. The song represents how unsuspecting this scene is, and that they have of the chaos that is soon to come. The song can represent many different parts of act one, but I always think back to the scene where Romeo sees Juliet for the first time. He says, “For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night” (1.5.51). This quotes reminds me of the song title “To a wild rose” and the beauty that a rose has, similar to how he feels about Juliet in that moment.
Act 2: Waltz of the Flowers by Tchaikovsky
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxHkLdQy5f0). I love this song because it can be interpreted in many different ways. In act 2, Romeo finds Juliet and hears her confess her love for him and he does the same. They end up getting married, so the play begins to get more interesting. The marriage seems to be a bit impulsive and not planned out, and everything seems to be rushed. Relating back to the song, the tempo is much happier and upbeat. This is how Romeo and Juliet feel when they get married because they don’t seem to think about the fact that their families hate each other. The song starts slow but picks up which represents the slow start of the play, but everything seems to pick up in act 2 when they actually fall in love. The song is also very carefree which shows Romeo and Juliet’s personalities in the second act.

Act 3: Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAOTCtW9v0M). Any part of this song would successfully capture what happens in act 3. I focused in on the major fight scene, which I personally think is the climax of the story. I think this music can show anyone’s anger in the scene. It shows Tybalt’s anger towards Romeo, it shows Mercutio cursing the Capulet’s and the Montague’s, it shows Romeo killing his own family (Tybalt) out of anger, and it shows Juliet’s despair after Romeo is exiled and she must marry Paris. This song has many things to capture but I think it shows everyone very separate anger perfectly. The song begins calm, like Romeo wanting to stay peaceful with Tybalt. However, it soon picks up which shows the dramatic cause an effect of Tybalt’s death.

Act 4: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goeOUTRy2es). Act 4 was a short act but it gave you an eerie feeling of everything that could go wrong in act 5. Juliet even questions everything that could happen before taking the poison, and I think this song helps show that foreshadowing. The very beginning of the song probably shows Juliet’s emotions in this act the most. It has many minor chords and the sound of the music shows the skeptical feelings that Juliet has.
Act 5: Claire de Lune by Debussy
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlvUepMa31o). This song choice shows a distinct different from the rest of the song choices. I chose this because the whole song shows a bittersweet feeling. They both die for love and the feud between families is finally over. The slower pace with the soft sound shows a resolution after the climax. There is a happy feeling in the song, but also a part that starts to seem more dramatic which can show everything that has lead up to their deaths. This song may represent the theme “love is worth dying for” because the dramatic parts show the climax but resolution comes and they are now together forever.

I love these songs so much! I do agree with you, finding songs with lyrics that matched the act was a challenge for me as well. (That's why 2 of my songs were instrumental.) I feel like instrumental songs can often pack more feelings and emotions into the music. They let you feel the faster paced scenes with fighting and the sad scenes with slow, mellow music.
I love that you did all classical/ instrumental songs because when I see you explain all of the feelings in the song and the play, combined when I listen to the music, I can really see everything that's happening in the acts (like Tybalt fighting and Romeo and Juliet dying). Great choices!

I also agreed that it was a challenge to find lyrics that fit each act! Using songs that don't have lyrics is a good idea. With instrumental songs you can use them as more of a background to the play. I also like how each song corresponds to a certain aspect of each scene! Like in Act 3 you focused on the fight scene. You chose a more climactic song since this is the climax!

Act 1 – “Do it Alone” by Sugarcult (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL8vBGP5eGk)
The song, “Do it Alone”, represents act one of Romeo and Juliet in an important way. In the song, it talks about not wanting to be alone in the world, and wanting to be with the girl he loves. In act one when Romeo meets Juliet, he feels the same way. Romeo instantly loves Juliet, and Juliet loves him back, and they don’t want to be alone anymore. Instead they want to be together and not go through life alone.
Act 2 – “Walkin’ on the Sun” by Smash Mouth (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM2z60kDdZo)
This song represents the main theme of act two of Romeo and Juliet because it is about his love for a girl and if she accepts his offer of love. Similar events happen in act two when Juliet sends her nurse to talk to Romeo about their marriage and if he agrees with their love.
Act 3 – “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGzgoSg5OZg)
This song by Green Day represents the two main actions in act three, Mercutio’s death along with Tybalt’s and Romeo’s subsequent banishment. It is about walking alone, having no friends beside you through life. This happens in two ways in Romeo and Juliet, the first one with the loss of Romeo’s best friend Mercutio which leaves him alone, and his banishment which leaves him away from Verona and all his relatives, friends, and Juliet.
Act 4 – “Memory” by Sugarcult (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_zwuWyZv0E)
This song represents the main actions of act four in Romeo and Juliet because for a single, main reason. The first one is that in the song it talks about getting back to the where they last were, and back to where they lasted. In act 4, Juliet wants to get back to where her relationship lasted, before Romeo’s exile from Verona.
Act 5 – “Story of a Girl” by Nine Days (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO9QA3E7Udc)
This song goes along with the main actions in act five in Romeo and Juliet because it talks about how he loves a girl who is sad. In act five, Juliet is experiencing a similar feeling when she awakes in the tomb to find her lover, Romeo, lying next to her dead.

Act 1 - Love Lockdown by Kanye West
This song represents the first act because in the song he is trying to keep his love to themselves "locked down" because he knows he shouldn't and it is no good for him. This is in correlation to Romeo not supposed to love Juliet because it will not end well.
Act 2 - Just Can't Get Enough by The Black Eyed Peas
This song represents two lovers desperate to see each other and saying how they are perfect and want to make love to each other. Hence Romeo and Juliet trying to see each other to slay the maiden's head.
Act 3 - Man Down by Rihanna
This song fits with act 3 because Rihanna is getting revenge on a man that she doesn’t like at all. This is related to Tybalt trying to kill Romeo out of hatred
Act 4 – Lost in the World by Kanye West
In this song Kanye talks about a girl being his everything (good and bad) and gets essentially “lost in the world” trying to be with her. This is similar to Juliet “lost in the world”, and will do anything to try to be with her Romeo who is good and bad for her. Romeo is good and bad for her because they love each other, but it causes many complications.
Act 5- I will follow you into the Dark
I picked this song as my last because it fits perfectly. Romeo finds Juliet dead and will kill himself to be with her hence, “Follow her into the Dark.” Juliet does the same thing right after Romeo

Act 1- This song is perfect for this act and the meaning of the lyrics matches the meaning of the act very exquisitely. The beat of the music fits the motion in this passage also.

Act 2- I think this song goes well with this chapter although I would have liked if you gave a better reason for choosing this song instead of it just having a fitting name.

Act 3- This song fits this act because it talks about how Rihanna kills someone then has to go into hiding. similar to when Romeo kills Tybalt and then is banished. I completely agree with your song choice although Rihanna is not a personal favorite of mine.

Act 4- This song is an excellent choice for this act although i wish you would have put more information in your reasoning besides just talking about good and bad. I feel like you went to deep into one small topic and forgot about what the whole of the song really meant.

Act 5- The name of the song fits the act perfectly and the lyrics fit the act better than the name. It amazes me how well this song fits the act and how it fits the whole story. All in all, great job!

Act 1:
"Anything" by Martina Topley-Bird; this song is about how she only needs one person, nothing else. Just like Romeo he was so in love with Rosaline and Juliet that that's all he could think about and said he needed in order to survive.

Act 2:
http://relaxdaily.net/store/
This is a link to a website that has relaxing music. I chose this because I thought that after meeting Juliet, Romeo was very calm and happy that he found his true love.

Act 3:
Pirates of the Caribbean dead man's chest-Hans Zimmer
The song begins to pick up (mercutio and tybalt arguing then fighting), then the peak of the music comes ( tybalt stabbing and killing mercutio), the song begins to get intense (Romeo fights with tybalt), then the intensity stops abruptly (tybalt is killed), and then the music slows down and brings you back to reality (Romeo starts to regret what just happened and can't take it back).

Act 4:
"Where Did the Angels Go" by Papa Roach. The title and lyrics, I thought, helped describe how everyone was scream and crying when they found Juliet dead. Capulet and Lady Capulet were wondering why "death" took her and Friar Lawrence reassured them that she was in heaven (which made me think that Juliet was said to now be an angel that went to heaven, or something like that).

Act 5:
clint mansell - Lux Aeterna; The action when romeo is racing to get to Juliet and kills himself, then she kills herself and everyone realizes what they have done and how the feud between the families led to the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet.

I agree with all of the songs you chose. The song for act 1 practically described everything that happened, and it helped to tell the story of them meeting for the first time, as well as Romeo and Rosaline. I love how you chose relaxing music for act 2, because I also think this is one of the calmest acts in the whole play. There is no major conflict yet so the relaxing music makes sense, especially before the major fight scene in act 3. For act 3 you chose a dramatic instrumental, which is one of my favorite out of all of your song choices. The song works best because it starts out really soft and quiet then picks up and gets louder, just like the fight. I thought your choice for act 4 was interesting. The perspective you chose was one I always think about. Juliet takes a potion without even thinking that she’s going to be dead to her family, so she really is like an angel. I love instrumentals, and act 5 was another one! The song started slow then picked up, like the conflict slowly growing. However, towards the very end of the song there are soft notes that kind of fade away which I think of being Romeo and Juliet.

For scene 1 i chose the song "lovesick" by Never shout Never
I made this choice because this song is Basically about a lovesick boy who's been rejected. I thought this was appropriate because Romeo is first introduced as a lovesick puppy, much like the boy in this song. The song describes the boy's frustration with a girl who refuses to love him. He sings "I just can't eat, Just can't sleep, can't do much of anything at all, cause i'm sick and in love with you, dear." Describing much of Romeo's initial situation.

For act 2, I chose the song " The first time ever i saw your face" by Celine Dion. I chose this simply because it is about love at first sight. The song also compares the lover to the sun, the moon and the stars, just as Romeo compares Juliet to the sun. This song is very dramatic and has a lot of emotion behind it. It sounds as if it was written for Romeo.

For act 3 I chose the song "Right before my eyes" by Cage the Elephant because at this point Juliet's world is completely altered. In the song, It says "right before my eyes, i saw the whole world loose control" Basically the man in the song was loosing all that he knows, just as Juliet is with Romeo and Tybalt. Her life as she knows it is gone.

For act 4 I chose the song "when i'm with him, I'm thinking of you" by Katy Perry because, in this act, Juliet's parents are about to marry her off to Paris when she really loves Romeo. When she thinks of love, she can only think of Romeo. In the song, the Girl speaks of how she has to pretend to love someone when she really loves someone else, just like Juliet.

In act five, I chose the song "Mad world" by Gary Jules because, this act is about them both comitting suicide because the other is dead. In the song, He's repeats the line "no tomorrow" indicating that he intends to kill himself. He also says " all around me are familiar faces, worn out places. Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow. The dreams in which im dying are the best i've ever had." He had a dream of his own death just as Romeo did. This song is in itself a tragedy and fits this act perfectly.

I love all of the songs that you chose! I am a fan of Never shout Never so that is obviously going to be one of my favorites, but the song really does fit the first scene. The chorus actually describes Romeo leaving Rosaline in away, because he went around saying that he was in love with her but then he finds Juliet. I also love the second song you chose for act 2. The title says it all, because act 2 is really where they get to know each other a bit more and know that they both love each other. I like how you made the connection to the balcony scene. I thought of that when I listened to the song too, because of the lyric “the sun rose in your eyes”. It connects back to Romeo saying that Juliet speaks with her eyes. Your song choice for act 5 was perfect because it is able to explain the weird irony in that scene. Romeo and Juliet die, and their deaths made peace between their families.

Act 1: "Love Story" by Taylor Swift
I belive this song goes perfectly well with the story because it is basically about Romeo and Juliet. The song begins by saying "we were both young when I first saw you" and both Romeo and Juliet were very young when they fell in love. Later on the song says "see the lights see the party the ball gown" which to me , represents the party at the Capulets house where they meet and fall instantly in love.

Act 2: "Marry Me" Train
This song goes so well with this act. During Act 2, Romeo and Juliet get married even though their families are impecable enemies. There's a line in the song that says "forget the world we won't let them see" which connects to how they had to forget about their world and society to get married.

Act 3: "Daylight" by Maroon 5
During Act 3, Romeo leaves Juliet for Mantua. Once they wake up and notice the sunlight, they start fooling around saying that the sun is not really the sun; that it's just a bright star. They don't want to accept the fact that now that the sun is out, they must say goodbye and part ways. The song says "cause in the daylight we'll be on our own...I was afraid of the dark, but now it's all that I want". This goes to what I was exactly saying. Romeo and Juliet prefer to be in dark during the night where nobody can see them together.

Act 4: "Won't Go Home Without You" Maroon 5
This song says "every night you cry yourself to sleep, thinking why does this happen to me" which to me represents how Juliet must be feeling throughout Act 4 when her parents are forcing her to marry Paris or hit the streets.

Act 5: "After All" by Peter Cetera
This song says "after all we've been through, it all comes down to me and you. I guess it's meant to be, forever you and me, after all". This connects to Romeo and Juliet by how after all they tried to do to accomplish being together, they killed themselves which leads them to be together forever.

Yvanna, I really like all of your song choices! I agree with how they all relate to each individual act, especially Marry Me for act two. I love all of your song choices! I was going to choose "Love Story" for Act One too, but instead I used it for Act 2. Going back, I totally see why it corresponds with Act 1. Act 1: “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers
I chose this song to represent Act 1 because it is the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet. Just like in the song, they knew that they belonged to each other. I also thought that the title, “Ho Hey” ironically related to Shakespeare because “Ho” means “Hey” in Shakespearean terms.
Act 2: “Love Story” by Taylor Swift
For Act 2, I selected “Love Story” because this is the scene when Romeo and Juliet get married. In the song it says, “Marry me Juliet, You’ll never have to be alone,” and relates directly to the story in many ways.
Act 3: “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri
I picked “A Thousand Years” because in the play, this is the scene when Romeo gets banished from Verona. I think it shows that even though Romeo and Juliet are apart, they are still married and will love each other for a thousand years.
Act 4: “Not Over You” by Gavin DeGraw
This song is perfect for this act because when Juliet is forced to marry Paris, she knows that in her heart she still wants to be with Romeo. She realizes that even though he is banished from Verona, that she is not over him.
Act 5: “Who am I living for?” by Katy Perry
I chose this song to signify Act 5 because once Romeo hears the news and thinks that Juliet is dead, he wants to kill himself. Also, once Romeo drank the potion to die, Juliet woke up, and realized she wanted to kill herself in her love for Romeo.

Act 1- Lovesick by never shout never

I chose Lovesick because i feel that it portrays Romeo quite well while he is depressed about Rosiline. The song is about a guy who is hopelessly in love with this girl and he is just so depressed that he cant eat or sleep or do anything really.
The ink to a lyric video is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqe7yucvOSU

Act 2-Marry You by Bruno Mars

I chose this song for act 2 because it is about a guy who rather hastily decides that he wants to marry his girlfriend. i thought it was appropriate considering that Romeo and Juliet just decide to marry each other without thinking of the consequences.

Act 3- here by Pavement

I chose Pavements song here because it totally represents Juliets life as it falls apart and how she was "dressed for success" with Friar Lawrence s plan, but that failed with her father forcing her to marry Paris.

Act 4-Broken by Seether featuring Amy Lee (from evenecance)

this song reminds me of act 4 because Juliet is to the point of no return and she is broken and wants to be with romeo. she takes the sleeping potion not caring weather or not it acctually kills her because she dosent think she is strong enough to go on without romeo.

Act 5-I will follow you into the dark by death cab for cutie.
"If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark"

When Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead she decides that if romeo is dead that she will follow him and she kills herself.

Act One-Song: Bad Romance-By Lady Gaga -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrO4YZeyl0I
I use “Bad Romance”, by Lady Gaga in the first act because this is when Romeo and Juliet meet, and I believe it is fair to say that their love is indeed a bad romance from the start. They both know in this act that of course not only do they love each other, but they are both fatefully bound into families that hate the other to a loathsome extent. This fact in itself is bad. In the song, it states this: “I want your love, and want your revenge, I want your love, I don’t want to be friends”. This line reminds me of the hate, or revenge, that each of the families has towards the other, but at the same time says that I want your love, which can be perceived as Romeo and Juliet’s relationship with one another. The song also states this line as well: “I want your horror; I want your design, because you’re a criminal as long as your mine.” The horror is that they both love each other, and know of the hate and apathy that their kinsmen hold against the other. The part of, you’re a criminal as long as your mine, can be translated to the fact that if they were found out, they could be killed, just like a criminal would for stealing or murdering.
Act Two -Song: Fashion of His Love- By Lady Gaga
Fashion of His Love, By Lady Gaga, is an exceptional song to add into Act Two, of Romeo and Juliet. Notably because it is the first time we really hear from Juliet in what she has to say about her love for Romeo. We also can depict that fate brought them together, as can be depicted in these lines: “I’m seeing all this signs from above, I’m going to be the one that he loves, I was made for loving him, the fashion of his love.” This line states the idea and theory of how fate enter- twined Juliet to fall in love with Romeo, and her confident belief that Romeo is her one true love.
Act Three- Song: Judas-By Lady Gaga
Another song by Lady Gaga, but describes this act perfectly. We see here that Romeo is now married to Juliet, and therefore, Tybalt is technically part of Romeo’s family this can be depicted in the song with this line: I want to love you, but something’s pulling me away from you.” This shows Romeo’s family love now towards tybalt, but at the same time is pulled away because of Tybalt’s anger towards Romeo and their family’s hate towards on another. The song also states this: I’ll bring him down, bring him down, down.” This can be seen as the vengeance that Romeo has towards tybalt after he kills Mercutio.
Act Four-Song: “Is Your Love Strong Enough?”-The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack.
I choose this curious song because of its lyrics that if listened closely, can be seen through this act. “Is your love strong enough? Just one beat.” After Juliet takes the poison, her heart beat is so low that she of course, seems dead. This is obviously shown through “one beat”. “With someone I could die for, nowhere I would rather be.” This line shows how Juliet freely volunteers to be buried in the tomb, a creepy, odorous and noxious place for someone whom is alive to be, without hesitation.
Act Five-Song: “If I die Young” by The Band Perry
The song title in all sincerity, speaks for itself. At the end of the play, we see how both Romeo and Juliet have taken their lives. “The sharp knife of a short life”, depicts the pain of how young they were and the complete devastation, while also maintain the suicidal aspect of the physical act.

Hellooooo Kendall! Hi, okay, yes I definitely agree with you on how Romeo meeting Juliet starts probably one of the worst romances in the history of any romance (real or fiction). All the Lady Gaga songs fit really well into the acts, but what stuck out to me was the song Is Your Love Strong Enough? because Juliet is grieving for a long while it seems in the play, and since this song is pretty repetitive with a couple extra vocals added here and there, it stuck out because it really expresses the emotion she seems to feel. Awesome.

Act 1: I Want to Break Free by Queen

The title it self represents the mood that Romeo was in at the beginning of the story, after Rosaline had refused his love and how he wanted to break free from his sadness after her rejection.
In the later part of the song Freddie Mercury sings "I've falling in love for the first time and this time i know it's for real." This represents that Romeo knew that he loved Juliet and realized that Rosaline was not his true love.

Act 2: When You're Young and in Love by The Flying Pickets

In the beginning of the song they sing "Life seems to be a world of fantasy when you're young and in love," this completely explains how both Romeo and Juliet saw their lives that temporally seem so perfect and it then describes their relationship as a whole, simply.

Act 3: You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi

This song represents both the death of Mercutio and Tybalt.
"No one can save me the damage is done," This shows how Mercutio died slowly after a fatal stab by Tybalt and how he yelled it to Romeo.
"Shot through the heart and you're to blame. You give love a bad name," the shot represents Romeo stabbing Mercutio literally and Juliet emotionally. Romeo also gave love a bad name, when he killed Tybalt after he confessed his love towards Tybalt.

Act 4: Separate Ways by Journey

This song perfectly represents the night Romeo and Juliet together and how Romeo had to leave.
"Sleepless nights," represents the night where they had sex( not trying to be perverted that is literally what happened).
"One night will remind you, how we touched and went our separate ways," this represents how the had sex and then were separated from each other, the next day.

Act 5: It's a Hard Life by Queen

This shows how Juliet felt after finding out the death of her dear Romeo.
"I don't want my freedom. There's no reason for living with a broken heart," this represents the freedom she had gotten from faking her death, and then deciding that her life was now worthless with the pain in her heart after the death of
Romeo.

Oliver, I thought every one of your song choices went perfectly along with the main events in each act of Romeo and Juliet. I especially thought You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi was a perfect choice for the main events in act three. The song choices for act one and act five were also perfect choices for their main events. Good job!

Act 1 - You're the Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room) by Flight of the Concords
Most of us were doubting Romeo's devotion with his fickleness in the beginning of the play; just after falling head over heels for Rosaline, he can't get enough of Juliet. This song by Flight of the Concords, I think, displays the brashness of Romeo's seemingly inconstant love (though we do find it to be very dependable later on when he chooses death over living in a world without Juliet).

Act 2 - 2 Hearts by Digitalism
"You are hopelessly in love... these two hearts won't make it last." Although these lyrics could be interpreted literally as "the two lovers cannot carry out their endearment," but perhaps in this case instead it could be construed as "the two lovers can't make it last." In Act 2, the point of Romeo and Juliet loving each other very much is blatantly shoved in the reader's face, and that is marvelous! But regrettably, we are also witnesses of the foreshadowing of all the tragic things that will take place in the drama.

Act 3 - Gimme Sympathy by Metric

Instantly starting in a very upbeat fashion, this number is a superb representation of the exciting events that happen in this act. Simplistically, the lyrics ask the listener, "After traumatic events, who would you want to be in the situation?" This connects well with the happenings of the climactic number of scenes, with characters having to make radical decisions and carry out the most dramatic of actions with less than a second to think it over.

Act 4 - How Do I Live Without You? by 13.5.HS

When Juliet is under the pressure of choosing whether or not to drink the poison, the thought that it may be her saving grace in seeing Romeo again tips the scale. As a classic serenade, I thought this an obvious choice- Juliet wants life to be a thing that includes Romeo, and vice versa.

Act 5 - Crystalmethequins by Cherubim

This song is one of the most triumphant and down-casting songs I know- and without possessing any lyrics. With more than half of the play's death, and the final circumstances going down, this phenomenally dramaturgical fits well.

Greetings Talitha! I enjoy all of your choices, especially the last one! I love that the last song sounds dismal, but also somewhat hopeful, and all together epic (similar to the final act of Romeo and Juliet)! Also, I like Gimmie Sympathy, and You're the Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room) always makes me laugh.

Act 1: "Thousand Years" by Christina Perri sends the message of how powerful love at first sight can be. When Romeo and Juliet first meet they fall in love atomatically. And the lines in the song represent how you can know you love someone by just looking at them" right from the start I knew I found a place for my heart".
Act 2: "Love Story" by Taylor Swift sends the message of acting on true love and marrying someone becuase you love them and you don't care about what anybody else thinks. In act 2 Romeo and Juiliet act purely on their love for one another so themes go along with each other."Romeo save me, you'll never have to be alone, I love you and thats all I really know."
Act 3: "Daylight" by Maroon 5 sends the message of making the most of the little time you may have with someone. When you love someone so much that you don't care how bad things are going, you appreciate the little time you have and make the most of it. In Romeo and Juliet, when he gets banished he visits Juliet to make the most of their last night together becuase he will have to leave in the morning. 'In the daylight, we'll be on our own, but tonight I'm going to hold you so close".
Act 4: "Thinking of You' by Katy Perry and it sends the message of being with a person that you don't truely love but having to do it anyway. In this act of Romeo and Juliet, Juiliet is being told that she has to marry Paris and she just doesn't know what to do and wants Romeo to be there with her. "Oh how I wish that I was looking into your eyes".
Act 5: "I'll Follow You into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cuties it sends the message that if you love someone so much that you just can't live without them and you will kill yourself when your lover dies. In Romeo and Juliet we see the same kind of message when Romeo decides he wants to go to Juliet's tomb and kill himself, and then when Juliet wakeds up she decides to kill herself becuase Romeo is dead. So it is the same theme of loving someone so much that you'll kill yourself just to be with them. "Love of mine, someone day you will die, but I'll be close behind, I'll follow you into the dark".

Act 1:The song We Found Love by Rihanna sums up this Act because with the feud going on the couple truly did find love in a hopeless place.
Act 2: Love Story by Taylor Swift is a perfect song for this act. Taylor is refering to Romeo in the song, and one of the lines says, "I love you and thats all I really know" which is true because their relationship is so rushed. In the song Taylors dad doesnt approve of Romeo just like the feud between the two households.
Act 3: The perfect song for Act 3 is Daylight by Maroon 5 because after the news of Romeo's banishment Juliet and Romeo spend a peaceful night together they both dread that Romeo will have to leave for Mantua in the morning.
Act 4: The perfect song for this act is Carry On by Fun. In this act Romeo is banished and both the lovers have to deal with being seperated, they are both lost and alone just like the song describes. Juliet also needs to "Carry On" when hearing news that she has to marry Paris.
Act 5: If I Die Young by The Band Perry explains Act 5 to me. Not only is it a good song, but at the end all the "teenagers" in Romeo and Juliet have died...young.
